Sometimes it is hard to meet parents expectations
Brian and Andrew are both put under heaps of pressure from their parents. Brian is always getting pressured by his parents to get good grades. His mum even goes the extent to force him to find a way to study during detention even though he is not supposed to. Andrew is pressured to always win in sporting events. His father only wants the best for him so that he can go on and get a scholarship. Even though both sets of parents only want what's best for their children, they don't take into account the amount of pressure they have placed on their children. Brian, feeling as though he has failed his parents after flunking wood shop, tries to commit suicide. While Andrew, wants to intentionally hurt himself so his father would get off his back. We can see that the parental pressure in this scenario has had a negative impact on the children.
The film is trying to convey the message that parental support is good but putting too much pressure on your child can cause them to fall out.
